OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES



The Electrical Systems Engineer is a challenging and critical position. This position will have a key role in our engineering and design team and test engineering efforts for a variety of aerospace electro-mechanical motion control products which includes Actuation and Systems, Power Drives and Sensors. This role is approximately proportioned to be 50% product design and 50% certification testing and lab/production development testing and test equipment integration.



Specific responsibilities the Electrical Product Design of work includes detailed knowledge of motors (AC, Brush DC and Brushless DC), commutation sensors (field directors, Hall Effect and Resolver), position sensing, velocity and load sensing devices, open and closed loop control systems, Fault monitoring, diagnostics, redundancy and power management, high frequency response servo applications, relays, switches, analog and digital control such as ARINC 429,CAN Bus, MIL-STD-1553, RS-485 among others and software including standards such as DO-178 and DO-254. The candidate should understand the basic principles of electromechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. At the detail level, the ideal candidate will be capable of both detailed level circuit design and analysis as well as system performance prediction including power management analysis including MATLAB-SIMULINK math modeling and prediction among other capabilities. Compliance Matrices, Compliance Testing, The ability to create, perform and/or participate in Customer meetings such as Kick-Off Meeting's (KO), Joint Definition Phases (JDP), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) , Critical Design Reviews (CDR), Test Readiness Reviews (TRR's) is necessary. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.



The candidate should be familiar with Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP's), Qualification Testing Procedures and Reports (QTR's and QTP's), Endurance Testing, Durability Testing, Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS), Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), Reliability Development Testing (RDT) and other similar type testing. The candidate should be capable of both authoring and executing these types of test. The candidate should have a thorough understanding about these types of tests and when they are appropriate to apply. This should include scope and Knowledge of MIL-STD-810, DO-160 and similar testing used for product certification.



The ideal candidate will have hands on experience in a lab environment. This will include the capability to perform custom test stand and test panel programming and design specific to a products end objective. Deep knowledge of Labview is essential. Test equipment validate and safety are key elements of this role. A structured approach with aerospace configuration management of both software and hardware is key even relative to test equipment.



The ideal candidate will be a generalist with both analytical and intuitive skills that can delve deeper into all aspects of a design, work with customers to formulate their requirements and understand the implications within the application. The ideal candidate will not only solve problems but will recognize that where problems exist or linger. This candidate should be able to apply all their knowledge and experience to create general principles to solve recognized problems in a simple, effective, and explainable manner.

The candidate has the responsibility to work collaboratively with the mechanical engineers, designers, drafters, and other product design team members as well as the program manager and suppliers to meet program cost, schedule, and performance requirements. This means that this position will interact regularly and collaboratively with the production, Design, Operations, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Suppliers, and the Ownership Team.



The Electrical Systems Engineer will also manage external suppliers and partners for critical control hardware and software. This includes writing requirements for boards and software and validating compliance. In addition, this candidate will actively participate and contribute in our design workflow process.



SPECIFIC DUTIES


  • Create Electrical and Control Systems Engineering inputs for conceptual trade studies and detailed proposal efforts
  • Created detailed layouts/concepts for new applications
  • Create and execute product design details, which includes: Schematics, Checking. Reviewing and Approving Drawings and Change Order, Derating, Detailed Piece Part Drawings, Gerber files as well as Tolerance and Thermal Studies.
  • Create Reliability Studies, fault trees, FMECA's, System Safety and Hazard Assessment, etc.
  • Work cooperatively to provide Engineering technical support to manufacturing, suppliers, or customers
  • Ensure products are designed for producibility and manufacturability (DFMA).
  • Define, design, and support electro-mechanical and mechanical test equipment for each product application, including the creation of the automation code if needed.
  • The candidate must also be hands on and willing to work in the shop environment to build prototypes and support production issues.



    • Capable of authoring proposals.
    • Capable of identifying and leading implementing continuous improvement opportunities throughout the company.
    • Capable of managing specific aspects of programs from a blank sheet design.
    • Capable of creating and meeting program schedules.
    • Work interactively with supply chain and suppliers to ensure optimal and compliant design manufacturing processes are utilized.



      MIMINUM REQUIREMENTS


      • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Equivalent Degree
      • Specifically, applicable experience of 5+ years
      • Aerospace Experience of 5 years minimum
      • Demonstrated leadership skills through example, mentoring and running multifaceted design teams.
      • Specific capability in the following software:

        • SolidWorks
        • Matlab Simulink
        • Labview or equivalent
        • Relex (Windchill)
        • Microsoft Products, including advanced knowledge of Excel


        • Exceptional analytical and mathematical background
        • Ability to communicate information and ideas both written and spoken so others will understand
        • Knowledge of Aerospace Military and FAA design requirements
        • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and methods
        • Knowledge of aerospace drafting standards
        • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)(ANSI Y14.5M)
        • Knowledge of certification/qualification testing per DO-160 or MIL-STD-810
        • Knowledge of DO-254 and DO-178
        • U.S. Citizen





          DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE


          • Knowledge of SolidWorks Enterprise PDM is a plus.
          • Working knowledge of Windchill (RELEX)
          • Working knowledge of Matlab Simulink
          • Working knowledge of Labview or equivalent
          • Knowledge of space environments is a plus
          • Knowledge of Land and Sea based systems is a plus.
          • Knowledge of design for harsh environments is a plus.
