PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Identifies, develops, and facilitates programming for families of children ages 3-5. Coordinate family services and develop family partnerships to build and sustain a home-school connection.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. * Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan. * Carries out such additional duties as required or as conditions necessitate. * Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job. * Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. * Work with the Early Childhood Screening and Placement Office to support child find and recruiting activities within the community to identify eligible children. Support the enrollment and collection of documentation required by the grant and District for program applicants and attendees. * Provide coordination and support for families transitioning into the early childhood programs and to kindergarten * Assess family needs through surveys and family contacts to determine the areas that require support, such as accessing maternal/child health programs, parenting education, employment training, housing assistance, social service benefits, and/or counseling. * Assist families in accessing community pipeline, which includes social service agencies, education, and medical care. * Engage parents in supporting active learning in the home (literacy, numeracy, and social emotional skills), development of strategies to address challenging behaviors, and to encourage active participation in the school community through family education workshops and/or the development of family goals. * Conduct home visits as needed to support family needs and goals. * Inform families of their rights and procedural safeguards in conjunction with special education personnel. * Attend problem-solving meetings and special education evaluation conferences/staffings when appropriate. * Conduct large and small group meetings, parent support groups, and parent participation/ information classes based on identified family and/or program needs. This includes securing appropriate presenters where necessary in school and community sites. Flexible scheduling may require some nights and weekends to meet family needs. * Support family engagement in parent advisory council. * Complete all required funder and District paperwork and documentation including case notes, family plans, and workshop/parent meeting agendas and plans. * Implement Early Childhood Department attendance procedures in conjunction with Early Childhood teachers. * Participate in various community committees as requested by immediate supervisor. * Participate in the preparation of grant proposals and reports in collaboration with the Early Childhood Program administrative personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Ability to perform essential job duties satisfactorily * Knowledge of community resources is essential * Must have a valid driver's license * Basic knowledge of computers and technology

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Bachelor's degree required.

Bachelor's degree in early childhood, social work, psychology, family services or related field preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Additional training in child/family screening protocols and parenting curriculums/programs such as Parents as Teachers or Parent Caf's preferred.

Knowledge of a variety of topics related to children living in poverty. Topics include but are not limited to: accessing the community pipeline of services, supporting challenging behaviors, advocacy training, child development, toxic stress, secure attachment, and strengths based goal setting preferred.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

Applicant is expected to perform at the highest level of performance, representing the District and Early Childhood Department in a courteous, efficient manner.
