Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Medical Lab Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 2nd Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred License: MLT or MLS Certification by a recognized body required within 1 year of hire Certifications: ASCP certification or equivalent required within 6 months of hire Must-Have: - Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, including an internship at an affiliated laboratory, required within 2 months of hire - Effective verbal and written communication skills - Ability to address customer inquiries and concerns thoroughly Description: Performs laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols that require independent judgment and minimal technical supervision. Responsible for quality control, instrument maintenance, and specimen procurement and processing. Performs blood collection duties in a timely manner to ensure availability of test results as needed. Keeps abreast of changes and updates to technical procedures. Consistently follows established protocols for interpreting and verifying test results. Recognizes abnormal or inconsistent results and investigates them appropriately and in a timely manner. Notifies leadership of potential problems immediately to avoid compromising patient care. Consistently completes work assignments in a timely manner by prioritizing and multitasking as needed. Adjusts to fluctuating workloads and cooperates positively when additional work is required. Maintains workstations in a clean and organized manner. Completes special projects utilizing laboratory information systems, electronic medical records, and other tools as needed. Communicates possible delays, issues, or potential problems to leadership. If workload permits, voluntarily completes extra projects, duties, or studies as coordinated. Accurately performs required quality control procedures and documents results as specified. Performs corrective actions as appropriate. Documents out-of-control situations and provides details and results of corrective actions taken. Notifies leadership of out-of-control, discrepant, or unexpected results. Follows specific procedures to operate instrumentation correctly. Performs and documents required instrument maintenance as specified. Documents instrument problems, including details of the situation and results of corrective actions taken. Actively participates in training for students and new employees, covering materials thoroughly. Assists in developing training curriculum. Recognizes and investigates problems thoroughly and takes corrective action as necessary, involving peers if appropriate. Notifies leadership of unresolved issues in a timely manner. Completes all competency assessments required. Follows performance improvement plans as needed. Performs work within defined error limits. Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing. Addresses customer inquiries, requests, and concerns thoroughly, following through positively. Timely informs leadership of issues or concerns. Assists in error detection, investigation, and documentation. Suggests process improvement opportunities and seeks innovative ways to enhance error prevention. Provides evidence of participation in continuing education annually.
