This role involves assessing patient health before and after surgery, implementing care plans, administering treatments, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. The Post/Pre-Op RN ensures patient safety and comfort prior to and during the surgical recovery period, using advanced clinical skills, effective communication, and adherence to professional and regulatory standards. /n/nEssential Work Functions:/n/n /n/t - Assesses patients pre-operatively, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and identifying potential risks/n/t - Prepare patients for surgery, including educating them about procedures and post-operative care/n/t - Receive and conduct comprehensive assessments of patients transferring from the operating room and assess their post-anesthesia condition/n/t - Monitors patients post-operatively for complications and manages pain and recovery/n/t - Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques/n/t - Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patients in the perioperative setting/n/t - Observes and document patient conditions treatments, and significant incidents. and responses to anesthesia and treatments, notifying the care team of significant changes or adverse reactions/n/t - Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal, assesses patient condition and responds appropriately/n/t - Respond promptly to emergency situations utilizing Pre/post op nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols/n/t - Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and recovery progress in medical records/n/t - Develop and deliver individualized patient and family education plans, including detailed discharge instructions and recovery guidelines/n/t - Collaborate with the surgical team and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive pre and post-operative care/n/t - Participate in patient handoff communications to ensure continuity of care between units and departments/n/t - Operate and monitor pre and post op-specific equipment, such as ventilators, monitors, and infusion pumps/n/t - Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of practice/n/t - Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards/n /n/nRequired Essential Skills:/n/n /n/t - Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills/n/t - The ability to read, write, & communicate in the English language is required/n/t - Ability to read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, and proficiency in PC skills/n/t - Physical Abilities - Remain in a stationary position, move about, move equipment (50-100lbs), pushing, pulling, bending/n/t - Interpersonal Skills - To work effectively with a variety of personnel (professional and ancillary) to present a positive attitude and professionalism/n/t - Technical/Motor Skills - Ability to grasp, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling and able to move about when assisting with procedures and/or using department equipment./n/t - Mental Requirements - Must be able to cope with frequent contact with the general public, customers, and meeting deadlines under pressure.
