Visiting Medical Lab ScientistSHIELD IL Deployment UnitPosting
Category:This position is for a highly educated scientist to work
in a diagnostic clinical laboratory and process specimens utilizing
PCR to diagnose COVID-19. This position requires excellent
communication skills to help solve critical issues that may arise
in a diagnostic clinical laboratory within a start-up environment.
The Medical Laboratory Scientist is a member of the molecular
laboratory team and helps solve critical issues that may arise in a
diagnostic clinical laboratory.Additional responsibilities
included:Follow testing procedures and policiesPerforming the
required instrument maintenance and subsequent documentationFollow
Quality Assurance procedures and documentationMaintain accurate
laboratory records and dataPerform routine and complex procedures
outlined in the SOP'sPrepare dilution buffers and create RT-PCR
master mix solutionsLearn and understand robotic software Learn and
understand various PCR-related softwareContribute/communicate with
leadership and staff about quality control issues and projectsClean
and disinfect laboratory spaces and equipment using molecular
cleaning techniquesEnsure and communicate testing inventory supply
needsHelp team with process and accession specimensEnter data from
analysis of medical tests or clinical results into computerKeep
up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to the positionOther
duties and responsibilities assigned by the Directors of Lab Ops/
manager/ supervisor(s)
Qualifications:Required:Bachelor's degree in the Life Sciences
(verification of diploma and transcripts will be
required)Preferred:Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology,
clinical lab science, or medical technologyKnowledge and
Experience:Required: --- Ability to thrive in a team-environment
and independently --- The ability to communicate information and
ideas in speaking and writing so others will understand. ---
Ability to lift larger packages up to 50 lbs. --- Must be able to
work in full PPE for your entire shift --- Ability and skillset to
follow SOPs and EOPs --- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
technical issues while communicating effectively with laboratory
staff and leadership team --- Critical thinking skills Preferred:
--- PCR testing experience --- Six months working in a laboratory,
CLIA lab preferred --- Experience with molecular, microbiology, or
virology and single/ multi-channel pipettes --- Experience using
LIMS (preferably designed by the University of Illinois) ---
Experience using PNC (Point-and-Click, Electronic Health Record
System) --- Experience using Gilson PIPETMAX robots --- Experience
using VWR Ovens --- Experience using Gilson Platemasters ---
Experience using the QuantStudio 7 Flex Real-Time PCR System,
384-well configuration --- Ability to lift containers of 50 lbs. or
less, or the ability to ask for help within the laboratory ---
Interest in a career in Healthcare, Science, Medical Lab Science,
or Molecular Biology --- Some coursework in Molecular Biology Note:
CLIA certified labs require transcripts, diploma, resume, and
vaccination card to be kept on-site and electronically. Please
