Job Title: Health & Safety SpecialistDepartment: Human ResourcesReports To: Director of Human ResourcesFLSA Status: ExemptRevision Date: February 15, 2021Position SummaryThe Health & Safety Specialist has responsibility for planning, directing and implementing the organization's environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy and accident free work environment. Provides safety oversight for three facilities.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPlans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state and federal OSHA rules and regulations.Ensures managers and employees are trained in work site safety practices, fire prevention and correct handling techniques for machinery, equipment and chemicals.Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures are implemented.Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits and insurance investigations.Compiles and submits accident reports required by regulatory agencies.Oversees the administration of workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier and medical professionals to reduce employee lost time.Prepares and arranges safety exhibits and material for display, promotional work, industrial conferences and exhibitions.Maintains safety files and records.Leads and mentors Safety CommitteeDrives continuous improvement and streamlining of processes and procedures.Leads and manages special projects, which may be large or of a significant scale, as assigned.Maintains confidentiality of employment and workers compensation medical records.

Requirements:
Education/ExperienceBachelor Degree or other related degree from an accredited college or university.Minimum 5 years proven job-related experience in environmental, health and/or safety professional work.Prior experience in a manufacturing / industrial environment strongly desiredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESIn depth knowledge of OSHA regulations required.Strong communication skills; verbal, written as well as listening skills. Able to successfully communicate to various levels within the organization as well as be comfortable speaking in public.Possess strong IT skills (such as MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, HRIS systems, etc.)Possess a high level of professionalism when interacting with employees, management, or outside individuals.Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and successfully juggle competing priorities.Possess a high level of attention to detail & accuracyPossess strong influencing skills and ability to motivate employees and leaders to follow safety protocols.Possess problem solving and creative thinking skills.Possess strong integrity and ethical standards.PHYSICAL AND VISUAL DEMANDSThe physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
