2026 About the Opportunity This position supports a federal-focused
general contractor delivering construction projects in secure and
mission-critical facilities. The organization operates with a
small, experienced field team, giving safety leadership real
authority, visibility, and support in the field. Projects in the
Great Lakes region include facility upgrades, renovations,
utilities, and infrastructure work. Travel packages or relocation
assistance are available for qualified candidates who are not
local. This role is intended for a senior Federal SSHO who brings
depth of experience and steady leadership to complex environments.
Position Overview The Site Safety and Health Officer will serve as
the on-site authority for safety and health compliance, ensuring
all work is performed in accordance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA, and
federal contract requirements. Assignments are primarily based in
Great Lakes, IL, with flexibility for candidates requiring travel
or relocation support. Project Environment and Exposure Projects
may include a mix of exterior and interior construction, utility
and infrastructure work, electrical systems, and coordination with
hazardous materials in controlled or occupied federal facilities.
Key Responsibilities Enforce the site-specific Accident Prevention
Plan Ensure compliance with EM 385-1-1, OSHA, and federal safety
standards Conduct site safety inspections and address deficiencies
Lead safety meetings and support subcontractor compliance
Coordinate directly with project leadership and government safety
representatives Required Qualifications 7 years of experience as an
SSHO in federal construction Current EM 385-1-1 training OSHA 30
Hour Construction Safety certification First Aid and CPR
certification Strong knowledge of federal safety programs and
documentation Experience working in secure or occupied federal
