We're looking for a passionate professional to accept a high level of responsibility within a fast-paced, dynamic environment. In this role you will be responsible for the design and development of electronic control units and associated printed wiring board assemblies within electric systems for military and commercial aircraft. You'll apply principles and techniques of electrical/electronic engineering to ensure the design preparation is in accordance with applicable specifications, customer requirements and standard work practices and you'll interface with various functional groups to coordinate conceptual, preliminary, and detailed unit design, engineering documentation releases, development testing, qualification testing, and entry into service.Must be a commutable distance from Rockford, IL, to work a hybrid schedule reporting on-site as needed. Primary Responsibilities:

  • General
    • Use of the Standard Work tool as needed to enter appropriate data.
    • Work with the program office, department leadership, project engineering, peer designers, other engineering disciplines, and customer as needed to develop control units and resolve issues.
    • Able to solve difficult and often complex issues.
    • Preliminary Design Activities
      • Unit and Module Requirements Creation using Doors.
      • Requirements management (Validation of requirements, CR control using Polarion).
      • Detailed Design Activities
        • Schematic design using Concept HDL
        • Design Reviews per department standards
        • Design Analysis per department standards and customer specifications
        • Supporting creation of Test Requirement Specifications (TRS) and development of production test solution.
        • Verification Activities
          • Determine and prepare procedures for testing products. (Development and Qualification Testing)
          • Development and qualification testing at a unit level and at a system level.
          • Demonstrated ability to setup and use lab equipment.
          • Support testing at non-Collins locations as needed. -
          • Documents results of design studies, trade studies, and failure analyses.
            • Provides technical assistance to manufacturing as required. Qualifications/Experience Needed:
              • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience.
              • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.Preferred Qualifications:
                • Demonstrated engineering excellence with leadership experience in product development.
                • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
                • Ability to work in a team environment, mentor junior engineers, and communicate effectively with technical authority through all levels of the organization.
                • Demonstrated creative problem-solving experience and a robust work ethic.
                • Demonstrated ability to prepare and execute to a program plan.
