Job Title: Quality Engineer
Location: Franklin Grove, IL
Job type and Duration: Direct Hire
Pay rate: $75,000-95,000 + bonus
SUMMARY:
Quality Engineer will be the quality responsible of application
programs. He/she will drive discipline within the programs team
(CFT) to provide expected deliverables on time by following the
defined APQP process (PDP / NPDP). This position will drive the
qualitative content of product and process design deliverables
working with cross functional teams on local programs. This
position specific focus will be on the design for manufacturing and
assembly developed within the D/PMEA and Control Plan for local
application programs to ensure plant performance and customer
requirements are met at SOP.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Be the quality responsible and Voice of Quality (VOQ) in: a)
APQP / program management for application programs, b) D/PFMEA and
control plan & c) PPAP
- Ensure that our processes, standards and program specific
requirements are implemented and followed.
- Obtain and cascade customer specific quality requirements for
the program and converting these into deliverables for the project
team / plant.
- 100% oversight for all local APQP 8Ds.
- Deep dive on global and focus programs (product and process
validation and verification; PPAP).
- Systemic failure lessons learned, read across and front loading
in APQP.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement throughout
APQP.
- Drive run@rate targets.
- Monitor program KPIs with program team (CFT) and initiate
actions if needed.
- Lead audits on local programs and develop corrective actions
with the cross functional teams (e.g. Pre-Gate / Pre-EOT audits,
Gate Reviews, Launch Audits (VDA 6.3, WeAR)).
- Escalate program specific quality risks into the organization.
Primary Quality contact for customers in all quality matters (e.g
claims of prototype parts, PPAP timing, Run@Rate timing, action
plan status etc.). Ensure the discipline in the program team (CFT)
that all program deliverables of the (N)PDP / APQP process are
available on time. Responsible for regular updates to the Program
Manager / Advanced Quality Manager and / or the customer as to the
project status. From time to time assume plant quality engineer
role
- Initiate, lead and track progress of Customer and Internal 8-D
Corrective and Preventative Actions. Participate on teams and
assist with action as required.
- Administer and support our Customer and Supplier PPAP
processes.
- Support change management process. Participate on teams and
assist with action as required.
- Lead and participate in Advance Product Quality Planning
development for new product launches and existing production
lines.
- Analyze and evaluate customer warranty data for trends and
impact.
- Oversee product analysis process through destructive and
non-destructive methods.
- Develop and administer reliability analysis to support
predictive quality planning and product validation testing methods
and results.
- Execute and manage process qualification through quality
measures.
- Develop and maintain procedures that support quality system
requirements.
- Provide technical leadership, training, and lessons learned
through effective teamwork and communications to manufacturing,
suppliers, customers, peers, and management team.
- Lead and participate in issue resolution as needed.
- To foster of culture of safety by: use of required PPE;
following safety rules and procedures and training others;
compliance with plant code of conduct; attendance at safety and
health training sessions and housekeeping practice. PFMEA and
Change Management Coordinator.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- 5 - 7 years minimum experience working in an automotive/mfg,
Bachelors (Hons) Degree (or above) in Mechanical Engineering,
Vehicle Technology or similar Engineering Degree.
- A practitioner of the Automotive Core Tools (APQP, MSA, PPAP,
FMEA, SPC) and methodology.
- Familiar with the company and customer requirements for
Critical and Special Characteristics.
- Knowledge of DFM/A.
- Have demonstrated success in broad and increasingly more
responsible quality or program management leadership positions
within companies known for worldclass quality excellence
processes.
- Demonstrate skills and knowledge in quality and APQP.
- Previous experience and expertise in strategic change,
restructuring, identifying and diagnosing challenging operational
issues and opportunities.
- Possess strong process orientation and a track record of
reducing costs, driving quality and on time delivery, improving
profits and streamlining operations in order to achieve lasting
financial improvements and ensure high levels of customer
satisfaction.
- Have partnered with a fastpaced senior team in a metricsdriven,
resultsoriented environment.
- Have excellent communication and negotiation skills with that
ability to build consensus and sell ideas at all levels of the
organization.
- Generate innovative solutions in work situations and try novel
ways to deal with work problems and opportunities.
- Proven comprehensive knowledge of the APQP process with an
Automotive OEM.
- Experience of Six Sigma and Lean Green or Black Belt
training.
- Proven experience of successful APQP launches working with
automotive customers.
- Ability to read and analysis mechanical drawings.
- Understanding and practical knowledge of multiple mechanical
measurement technics (CMM, round scan, contour graph, surface
roughness m/c, plug/thread gauges).
- Experience of using tools such as 8D /8 Steps, 5 Whys, Quality
Alerts to resolve quality issues.
