We have an opportunity for a Motors and Control Engineer to join our Delavan, WI team. You will be responsible for analyzing motor designs and making specifications to support VA/VE, Compliance, and NPD projects.This includes fractional and integral horsepower motors for a variety of applications including submersible water wells, submersible sump and effluent pumps, jet pumps, and irrigation pumps.You will also be responsible for the Variable Frequency Drives that complement these motors. You will become familiar with our existing product lines to support sustaining efforts. You will also be responsible for developing specifications and evaluating VFD's for future opportunities.This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager.

You will:


  • Develop specifications and qualification test plans for single and three phase induction motors.
  • Review and analyze dynamometer and other lab test data to ensure both customer and compliance needs are met.
  • Ensure both Pentair and third-party motor prints include appropriate detail and tolerancing.
  • Develop wire and fuse sizing tables for both motors and VFD's.
  • Provide input to product teams on the advantages and disadvantages of different motor designs for a particular pump application.
  • Work with multi-functional project teams to develop products on schedule, on budget, and at target quality levels.
  • Provide guidance to technical support team related to field issues or questions related to both motors and VFD's.
  • Develop specifications and functional flow charts for VFD's sourced from third parties.
  • Provide technical help in analyzing field failures and closing feedback loop for quality/process improvement.
  • Work with lab technicians to ensure test setup and equipment provide required accuracy of results.

    Key Qualifications:


    • Bachelor's degree (B.A., B.S.) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
    • 5+ years in Engineering development
    • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SAP.
    • CAD software, SOLIDWORKS or similar design software experience
    • LabVIEW experience preferred.
    • Experience with motor manufacturing processes and their capabilities.
    • Understanding of motor theory include separation of losses and the design considerations which impact them.
    • Experience with NEMA, NEC, UL, and CSA standards and codes related to motors and VFD's is required.
    • Experience with IEC and other International standards and codes is preferred.
    • Knowledge of the impact of different design approaches on motor performance, efficiency, and durability.
    • Ability to communicate technical requirements and results clearly to mixed audiences.
    • Experience programming and/or commissioning VFD's for pumping applications.
    • Experience with sizing, selecting, and evaluating motor components including thermal overloads, potential relays, start and run capacitors, fuses, etc.
    • Extensive experience utilizing Excel to perform calculations, create graphs, and analyze data.
